Why convert to JPG
- Small file size and fast uploads
- Compatible with virtually every app and device
- Well suited to photos and complex images
Good to know about JPG
- No transparent background
- Each re-save slightly reduces quality
What is WebP?
A modern Google image format – smaller files than JPG and PNG. Website images, faster page loads (SEO).
What is JPG (JPEG)?
The most widely used photo format, with lossy compression. Photos, email, social media.
When to choose WebP to JPG
When you save a picture from a website you often end up with a WebP file that a document editor, a shop admin form or an older photo program refuses. JPG opens practically everywhere, so converting solves the compatibility problem.
Common problems and fixes
- The transparent background turned white – JPG has no transparency. If it matters, choose PNG instead.
- Animated WebP – only a single frame is converted; the animation is not preserved.
- The file became larger – WebP is usually more efficient than JPG, so this is normal. Lower the quality slider.
- Colours look slightly different – compare the original and the result in the same program.
Quality tips
If the WebP was already lossy, the JPG cannot bring the quality back, so avoid a very low quality value – 85–90% is normally enough.
