When to choose MP4 to MP3
Often you need only the audio from a video: a lecture, interview, podcast or concert. Extracting an MP3 saves space and lets you listen as with any audio file, for example while running or driving.
Common problems and fixes
- The result is silent – some MP4 files have an empty audio track or use a codec that cannot be read. Check that the original plays with sound.
- A large video (up to 500 MB) is processed more slowly in the browser than in desktop software, and a long recording can take several minutes.
- If the MP4 has several audio tracks, the first is normally taken.
- When choosing bitrate remember: 128 kbps is enough for speech, 192–320 kbps for music.
Tips
If you will listen to speech only, 128 kbps gives a very small file without a noticeable loss of clarity.
