Where it is used
Celsius is converted to Fahrenheit when planning trips to the USA, baking from American recipes (a 180 C oven is 356 F, which is why recipes often say 350 F) and judging body temperature: 37 C is 98.6 F.
A quick mental shortcut
Exact formula: F = C x 9/5 + 32. Roughly, double it and add 30: 20 C becomes 40 + 30 = 70 F (the exact result is 68 F).
Exact examples: 20 C x 1.8 + 32 = 68 F; -10 C x 1.8 + 32 = 14 F.
Good to know
-40 is the only temperature at which both scales show the same number: -40 C = -40 F.
