Where it is used
Fahrenheit appears in US weather forecasts, oven settings and household appliances. On a trip, for example, 72 F means a pleasantly warm day, about 22 C.
A quick mental shortcut
Exact formula: C = (F - 32) x 5/9. Roughly, subtract 30 and halve: 72 gives 42 / 2 = 21 C (the exact result is 22.2 C).
Exact examples: (350 - 32) x 5/9 = 176.7 C; (98.6 - 32) x 5/9 = 37 C.
Good to know
The scale was proposed by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724 (early 18th century), and today it is used in everyday life mainly in the USA and a few other countries.
