What EXIF is and why remove it
EXIF is extra data that a phone or camera writes into a photo file. It usually includes the camera or phone model, the date and time, exposure settings, the software used to edit the file and, often, exact GPS coordinates.
If you send a photo to strangers or post it in listings or forums, this data can reveal where and when it was taken, for example the location of your home. Many social networks strip metadata themselves, but not every website or messaging app does.
How to use it
- Choose or drop up to 20 images.
- Press the button to process them.
- Download each file separately or all of them at once as a ZIP.
How it works and what to know
The tool re-encodes each image in your browser through a canvas, so the metadata is not carried into the new file. The picture itself stays, but re-encoding a JPG is slightly lossy even at high quality. PNG and WebP stay almost unchanged.
Nothing is uploaded: everything happens on your device.
