Base64 Encode and Decode
Convert text and files to Base64 and back – everything happens in your browser.
How to use it
On the Text tab, type or paste your text and choose Encode or Decode. The result updates instantly, and the Swap button moves the result into the input box and reverses the direction.
- Text is handled as UTF-8, so accented letters, symbols and emoji work correctly.
- URL-safe Base64 replaces + and / with - and _ and drops the trailing =; it suits links and JWTs.
- File to Base64 turns any file (up to 10 MB) into plain Base64 text or a data URI.
- Base64 to file rebuilds a file from Base64 or a data URI, previews images and lets you download it.
When it is useful
Base64 is used when binary data has to travel as text: email attachments, data URIs in code (for example small icons in CSS or HTML), API fields and configuration files.
Keep in mind that Base64 is not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so it must not be used to protect passwords or keys. Encoded data is also about a third larger than the original.
Privacy
Encoding and decoding happen on your device. Your text and files are never uploaded or sent to a server.
