- Characters are counted two ways: with spaces and without any whitespace.
- Reading time assumes about 238 words per minute, speaking time about 130 words per minute.
- The top keywords table lists words longer than two letters, how often each appears and its share of the whole text.
- Paragraphs are blocks of text separated by a blank line, and sentences are detected using the browser's language rules.
When it helps
A counter is handy when you must stay within a limit: social media posts, meta descriptions, contest entries or essay requirements. Speaking time gives a rough idea of how long a talk or a voiceover will run.
The keyword list helps you spot repetition. Common function words are not filtered out, only words shorter than three letters, so everyday words may take up part of the list. If you are writing for search engines, look at the words that reflect your topic and make sure the text reads naturally instead of repeating terms for their own sake.
Messages and form answers often come with a character limit. Check whether it counts spaces before you send, and leave a small margin for emoji or links.
Privacy and accuracy
Your text is analysed only in your browser and is neither uploaded nor stored. Accented letters such as Lithuanian ą, č or ž count as single characters. Word and sentence boundaries follow the browser's language rules, so abbreviations and unusual punctuation may give slightly different results than other tools.
