Why convert to WEBP
- Roughly 25–35% smaller files than JPG
- Supports transparency like PNG
- Faster pages and better Core Web Vitals
Good to know about WEBP
- Some older apps and editors cannot open it
- Not every platform accepts it as a photo upload
What is HEIC?
The photo format used by iPhone and iPad – more efficient than JPG. Original iPhone photos.
What is WebP?
A modern Google image format – smaller files than JPG and PNG. Website images, faster page loads (SEO).
When to choose HEIC to WebP
If you want to use iPhone photos on your own website, shop or blog, WebP is the most direct route: browsers support it and it is usually much smaller than JPG or PNG. HEIC, by contrast, is mostly not displayed by browsers at all.
Common problems and fixes
- The photo faces the wrong way – check the result before uploading to a site.
- A program or email client cannot open the WebP – in that case choose HEIC to JPG.
- Very large originals – iPhone photos have many pixels; if the page needs only 1200 px width, it is worth scaling the image down.
- Quality looks poor – raise the quality slider.
Quality tips
For websites a medium to high quality WebP is usually enough. Keep the original HEIC, so you can later make another size or format from it.
