Where it is used
Bar is converted to psi when checking tyre pressure, reading compressor and bicycle pump gauges, and for diving cylinder pressure. For example, a tyre pressure of 2.2 bar is about 31.9 psi.
A quick mental shortcut
1 bar = 14.5038 psi. Roughly, multiply by 14.5 (or by 15 when a rough estimate is enough).
Exact examples: 2.2 x 14.5038 = 31.91 psi; 6 bar = 87.02 psi; 1 bar = 14.50 psi.
Good to know
1 bar equals 100,000 Pa, and standard atmospheric pressure is 1.01325 bar, so the bar is very close to atmospheric pressure.
